International juries to decide on festival winners

21. březen 2017

No fewer than three international juries will select winners, in the Drama, Documentary and Report categories, at this year’s edition of the Prix Bohemia Radio festival of radio production.

Thanks to the support of the Visegrad Fund, radio artists from abroad have also been able to submit their works this year. This specifically applies to the Report category, which this year has been open to pieces from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, as well as the states of invited broadcasters. The juries in all categories also include representatives of European countries.

In addition, in organising this year’s festival Czech Radio has been able to draw on its partnership with public service broadcasters from the V4 states – specifically Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS), Polish Radio and Hungary’s MTVA.

A total of 15 jury members will decide on the winners in the 33rd edition, with five professionals from the worlds of domestic and international radio coming together in each category. Alongside the Visegrad region, the UK, Romania and France will be represented.

Prior to the main competition itself the juries conducted pre-selections from the programmes submitted and recommended works for the main competition. The evaluation of pieces in the main competition will be by means of a secret vote following a public listening session of competition programmes or reports.

On Monday 20 March the winner of the Documentary competition category will be decided by a jury comprising Alena Blažejovská (Czech Republic), Agnieszka Czyżewska-Jacquemet (Poland), Benoît Bories (France), Andrea Slováková (Czech Republic) and Štěpán Kubalík (Czech Republic).

On Tuesday 21 March the winner of the international Report category will be decided. Sitting on the expert jury will be Emily Thompson (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty), Erika Farkas (Hungary), Klára Stejskalová (Czech Republic), Rastislav Šimášek (Slovakia) and Andrzej Brzoska (Poland).

On Wednesday 21 March pieces will compete in the Drama category. The winner will be chosen by a jury composed of Natália Deáková (Slovakia), Alison Hindell (United Kingdom), Ilinca Stihi (Romania), Lenka Havlíková (Czech Republic) and Ľubica Olšovská (Slovakia).

Three main Prix Bohemia Radio prizes will be awarded in each competition category. The winners in the first three places in the Report category will, thanks to the support of the International Visegrad Fund, receive financial rewards of 1,500, 1000 and 500 euros.

Also making their evaluations will be the student jury. They will choose the winner of the Student’s Prize from among all submitted programmes and reports, regardless of the expert jury’s pre-selection.
